Manufacturers of writing instruments are and have been doing business in Europe for many decades if not centuries. Exporting their wares has been essential for the industry. Therefore, manufacturers established close contacts with their peers in Europe and elsewhere. Increasing economic and political integration in Europe resulted in more communication within the industry.
In 1983 the ´Federation of European Writing Instruments Associations´ (FEWIA) was established with many national associations contributing. As the industry consolidated towards more internationally operating companies and Europe strived successfully for more harmonised legislation and compliance, a federation could not any longer match the requirements of individual manufacturers.
Hence, in 1993 the ´European Writing Instrument Manufacturer´s Association´ (EWIMA) was established to provide a direct platform of information, communication and representation amongst individual manufacturers.
From this time on, EWIMA has been a reliable and solid partner for its members.
